Last year at this time I knew I wanted to travel in Europe, but was overwhelmed with where I wanted to go and what I should see. I spent lots of time online looking at travel options and finally decided that I would spend 2 weeks traveling with a Rick Steves' tour. Here's how I made that decision:
- The website was very clear about what was included and what was not. I knew I wasn't going to be surprised with any additional excursion fees or gratuities.
- The hotels where we'd be staying were going to be in town, rather than outside the city centers. I had no interest in staying in the suburbs and spending time in traffic/transit into the city each day before starting a tour.
- In general it seems as if lots of people enjoy complaining anonymously online. I didn't come across any negative reviews. However, it was quite obvious from the submitted scrapbooks that the people on the trips certainly enjoyed themselves!
- I was traveling on my own. Rather than paying a "single supplement" I paid the same prices as other travelers. In the end, there were 3 of us on our trip in similar situations. We rotated roommates and each of us ended up with 4 nights of hotel rooms to ourselves.
